Bread so beautiful I didn’t know what to eat but the free samples and friendly owners helped me get a better sandwich than I expected by far. The amazing bread pudding with homemade caramel was worth a trip all by itself.

We were in Door County a couple of weeks ago, and stopped at MacReady Artisan Bread Company our first day there. We loved it so much that we ended up eating breakfast or lunch there five out of our seven days in Door County, and took some bread home with us! Can’t say enough about how nice everyone was, and everything we tried was outstanding. Make sure to try their soups, my husband said their tomato parmesan soup is the best he’s ever had. I wish we were closer so we could go there more often; definitely a go-to place in Door County, you will not be disappointed!! Thanks Mike & Jenny!

Love this bakery. Everyone is so friendly and it’s truly a family affair. Their scones & cherry bread are to die for! (Bread out of the oven around 10am). Headed back to Door County this weekend and I will be at Maccready’s several times a week.

Fantastic selection of artisan breads!

Terrific bread, friendly staff, even good deals on their day old bread. I buy a bunch and keep it in the freezer. Next time I go I want to try their sandwiche’s because I’ve heard so many good things about them

Nice place, friendly crew, beautiful breads. I ordered a tuna sandwich to go that was presented to me in roughly 45 seconds. The styrofoam box consisted of two slices of bread with tuna mixed with celery inside. For $9 bucks I expected at least a crunch of iceberg… The bread wasn’t bad.

Lady behind the counter was not nice. My sandwich was also not very good. Wish I would have went to the bbq joint across the street.

You will never have a better tuna salad sandwich. The bread that day was white with semolina. It was soft with strength to not break down under the weight of the hefty tuna salad. And full of flavor too. Other breads sampled were outstanding. Fun and friendly owners are gifted bread artisans.

Nut Free and Fabulous. We look forward to coming here for lunch every year. One of the owner’s Jennifer, is so personable. She has a passion for good bread, local vegetables and meats. Her chicken salad sandwich will not disappoint and her soups are unique and delicious. The best thing is she decided to go nut free. She still has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich option, but it’s only made in one spot in the kitchen and she understands the severity of nut allergies. All of her baked goods are nut free. She uses seeds in an amazing way to provide a nutty, buttery flavor. Our son was so excited to get a baked treat this year because it was safe and so were we as we usually don’t get one because we feel bad he can’t enjoy it with us. The cherry roll and multigrain mix cookie were sensational. Don’t miss out.

A bit pricey, but very good bread.

Fast (the sandwiches were done before the credit card receipt printed!), friendly, and delicious chicken salad. However, it was a tiny, tiny, sandwich, especially for the price. I went away hungry.
Anna Misner
Over priced. Not that good of food. Tasted like Campbell’s soup with some extras thrown in. Sandwiches were small and expensive and nothing special. Could make it better at home. Will not be returning here.

I had the mushroom soup yesterday. Best soup ever! Wow. And I made French toast this morning with a loaf of MacReady white bread. I’d say, “Wow” again, but that’s so inarticulate. Instead I’ll say, “Try it, you’ll like it”.

Great place to stop for a light lunch, had their veggie sandwich with the cream cheese and i’ve been trying to mimic it at home ever since. The thick bread was delicious and the sunflower sprouts really brought it home.

Decided to stop here on the way up to Ephraim. This Egg Harbor establishment serves delicious deli sandwiches, cafe beverages and a variety of other baked goods. It has a small outdoor porch with a few tables for seating and an indoor seating area as well. You walk up to the cash register and place your order, if you ordered food they will promptly bring it to the table you have sat yourself at. There is plenty of street parking as well as a small parking lot off of the main road in somewhat of a strip mall type location. I ordered a Turkey sandwich it came with chips and treated myself to a chocolate chip cookie which was soft delicious! I would definitely go back for a sandwich and a snack!

Best Hardrolls and scones handsdown in Door County! We got there early in the morning and the hard rolls had 20 minutes left to bake. They were definitely worth the wait. You can tell that the owner’s take pride in their craft. Will make this place a regular stop from now on while on the peninsula.

If you visit Egg Harbor – You have to visit Macready’s! Jen and Mike treat everyone like a long lost relative or families best friend!
Small food board, but quality and freshness abound.
Make sure to purchase some of their homemade bakery treats. Great as a ride along snack. You’ll be surprised if they last the drive and make it to your destination!

The bread is wonderful and the ladies are awesome. We decided to take a quick trip to get bread and called ahead our request (seeing as we were going to be driving 2 hours), so we could ensure bread was available. The ladies had our bread and loved on us with cookies for the kids who braved the drive. THANK YOU FOR EVERTHING. IT WAS WORTH THE DRIVE. Here is until the next crazy drive!!!!!!

Found this place based on the many positive reviews, this was an awesome find! Had the Italian sandwich, served on wonderfully soft and tasty bread. Generous portion, my husband and I split, served with a bag of chips. The chocolate chip cookie, big and crispy was a perfect dessert. Bought a scone bursting with cranberries for breakfast, best scone I’ve had in a long time. We’ll be back!

Went to Macready Artisan Bread Co. on the advice of a friend during a recent trip to Door County, and was so glad I did! I was looking for just a simple, healthy lunch, and was not disappointed. I ordered just a ham sandwich and mushroom bisque soup, and was SHOCKED at the amount of food I was handed! The soup was outstanding, and the sandwich was perfectly made and extremely fresh. My wife had a chicken salad sandwich, and she felt it was some of the best chicken salad she ever had. We loved this place so much, we came back a second time, the only restaurant in Door County we went to twice!
Drinks are just bottles and cans of soft drinks stocked in a publicly accessible refrigerator. The sandwich was about $10, and the soup was $8. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. Full prices charged on the drinks, as is typical in most sandwich shops. Plus, there’s a nice, small assortment of fresh baked goodies for you to snack on, or to have as a desert.
We were there during the COVID-19 pandemic, and indoor dining was not allowed. We had to eat in outside, in a very nice courtyard, no problem at all, I even preferred it. They are taking all the precautions they possible can under circumstances, and I appreciate their willingness to operate at time where some restaurants have decided not to open at all.
The staff and owners are just wonderful people, and you can truly taste the love and goodness they put into all their food. Plus, they occasionally sponsor LIVE MUSIC in their gazebo! Some truly outstanding musicians come by, you’ll have to check with Macready for a schedule. Makes the outdoor dining even more fun. And don’t forget to take home a loaf of their fresh baked bread! A few different kinds to choose from, all excellent.
HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Sandwich just ok. Last year was better
Simply the best
Found your bakery by accident in August 2020. Bought scones & a loaf of cranberry- cherry bread. Both great choices but the bread was outstanding. When we departed Door County we bought several more loaves to put in our freezer & share with friends & family. We’re looking forward to it again on our next visit. Great quality, friendly service.
Amazing Treat
It’s always difficult to leave Northern Door, but there’s great pleasure in taking a bit of the joy with you – like a loaf or two of MacReady bread! It freezes brilliantly. We bought the cran cherry bread after Fall Fest to enjoy Christmas morning. Our family was amazed to have the (surprise) treat of something we love. Jenny said it would freeze well – and it did! Enjoy.
A must have when in Door County
My fiance and I stopped in for breakfast on a whim. We wanted a freshly made light breakfast and we were not disappointed. First of all everyone working in the cafe was extremely friendly. We were immediately offered samples of any bread we wanted to try. The cherry cranberry bread and french loaf were fantastic. Still warm from the oven too! Our cheddar rolls and ham and cheese strata were perfect. We decided while we were still there that any time we go to Door County we will be stopping in to get whatever is baked that day.
Great Bread
This small but comfortable bakery is awesome!
Entering the bakery you are greeted with a warm caring smile as the aroma of fresh bread and hot coffee remind you of home.
I recently purchased a couple loaves of bread that were still warm and baked that very morning!
It is some of the Best Bread that I have ever had and would greatly recommend this bakery!!
Thanks Dave
Best lunch in Door County
Best homemade bread, soups and sandwiches in all of Door County. Made with fresh homemade ingredients every day. My favorite tomato parmigiana soup and cranberry chicken salad sandwich. Recently tried the quiche and it was excellent. Need to make Egg Harbor a stop for lunch at Macreadys.
You really need to experience MacReady’s…
MacReady’s is one of our favorite places to go in Door County. The bread is amazing…fresh baked daily using the best ingredients. I am obsessed with Jenny’s Butter Crisp cookies but her Happy Hippie and Chocolate Chip are fabulous too. They offer the best sandwiches ever….cranberry chicken salad, egg salad, turkey and cheese and more and OF COURSE they are made with their fresh bread. The soups are amazing. My favorite is the Chicken with Wild Rice but all of the soups are wonderful. I highly recommend that you make a point of stopping at MacReady’s in Egg Harbor when you are in Door County…you will be SO glad that you did!
Great bakery and people!
My friend and I stopped in here for coffee and a pastry and we left with freshly baked breads, scones and a local artist’s drawing! My friend and I each had a cherry scone (with butter) that was perfect and she had a coffee. We could smell amazing bread being baked and couldn’t resist buying loaves for later! There’s plenty of parking for the bakery’s location that’s visible from Highway 42. We met the owner and her mom and they were so welcoming to us tourists! The board with a breakfast and lunch menu looked really tempting, too!

Nice lunch and bread buy
We chose to look up this bakery because of the rave reviews from Trip Advisors. We got there a bit late as most of the fresh baked goods were sold out. But, we did get to have a very nice light lunch. The heirloom tomato & Farro soup was fresh, hot and delicious. My husband & I enjoyed the variety of breads that accompanied the soup. My son had a healthy portion of liverwurst sandwich (I forgot the German name).
Best of all, there were some breads on the day old shelf that I was able to buy and at a discount.
The owner was so friendly and helpful as I made my bread and lunch choices. We will definitely make a point to visit this bakery on our next trip to Door County!

Cranberry Chicken Salad is so good!
It was our last day of our vacation, and we were looking for something light. We wanted to kill two birds with one stone by finding a good bread place and a good olive oil place, so we picked Macready’s because of it’s proximity to another store we were going to for olive oil.
The cranberry chicken salad sandwich was so good. I had a half sandwich with a bowl of the chicken and rice soup, and it was very filling! We picked up some scones and cookies to go, as well.
There was live music in the gazebo outside that completed the pleasant meal. Will definitely return again in the future!
